A Little Tea Party

Last year (that sounds so long ago), we did several photo shoots for the web-site. One of my favourite set-ups was for a Tea Party.

Several years ago I had a high tea at the Sheraton on the Park in Sydney. The food they served was utterly delicious - the right combination of little sweet things, and savoury morsels. I had a decadent, dark, rich hot chocolate that came in a special cup with a spout (the point being, I believe, that we ladies could purse our lips and not end up with a chocolate moustache), and champagne, of course.

After spending several hours ensconced in comfy armchairs, and indulging in tiers of food, there was absolutely no room for dinner. It was a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Throwing an afternoon soiree is an ideal way to entertain - especially when you don't want a big party, you want to celebrate something personal (such as a birthday, bridal or baby shower) and would like the chance to talk with your guests.

Set the scene around a low table, if you can, and dress it up with tablecloth, napkins and flowers.

Pile up tiers of small cakes, tartlets, eclairs and fresh scones, and include savoury options such as ribbon sandwiches, mini quiche, or small pastry items. Have a pot of tea brewing, and open a bottle or two of champagne (a pink or blush variety goes well with the sweet cakes).

There is no need to run around, just join your friends and put your feet up for a few hours.
